Debit cards account for 85% of the national payment card base. Nearly all cards are branded MasterCard, Maestro, VISA or Electron. Contactless PayPass cards have been issued since 2009.
OTP, the former state savings bank, dominates the banking sector and is the largest card issuer. Having expanded into neighbouring countries, particularly Bulgaria and Russia, it has issued 3.8 million cards in Hungary and an additional 9.7 million in other countries.
There are three major ATM networks and six POS networks. |
