Market Structure Historically a credit card market. Debit card POS use has grown through the domestic Laser scheme. Though an open market, card issuance and acquiring is dominated by the two large Irish banking groups, AIB and Bank of Ireland.

Consumer Finance Consumer borrowing passed Û18bn in 2007, up from Û10.5bn in 2002. Per capita consumer credit, at over Û4,000 per person, is double the eurozone average. However, consumer borrowing fell during Q4 2008 as the financial crisis intensified.
