About 60% of banking sector assets is held by the two biggest banks, both of which are state-controlled, with wholly-foreign-owned banks accounting for 25%. Raiffeisen International owns Priorbank, the third-biggest, and several Russian banks are present.
Cards issued reached 0.8 per capita in 2009, up from 0.63 in 2008. Debit cards predominate, and the Belkart scheme is growing fast. Only about 5% of cards issued are credit/charge cards.
Other than card payments, there are few electronic retail payments, but internet banking is spreading rapidly. |
