Payment Organizations Atos Worldline, the electronic payments subsidiary of Atos Origin, purchased the interbank companies Banksys and Bank Card Company (BCC) in 2006.
   
Domestic Card Brands Debit: Bancontact/MisterCash.
E-purse: Proton.
   
Market Structure Atos Worldline runs the national debit POS infrastructure. BCC is the major credit card acquirer. Debit cards dominate the market, accounting for over 80% of card payments in 2008. Credit card use is under-developed.
   
Major Issuers Fortis, KBC, Dexia and ING Belgium.
   
Consumer Finance Though small and tightly-regulated, the Belgian consumer finance market continues to grow, with outstanding consumer credit of over Û19 billion at mid-2008, equivalent to almost Û1,800 per capita.
