Market Structure	Croatia’s banking sector went through various crises in the late 1990s. All the major banks are now owned by western banks. There are 8.5 million Croatian cards at end-2010, equivalent to 1.93 cards per capita, one of the highest levels in CEE markets. Croatia is a showcase market for American Express through its agreement with PBZ, which has issued over 500,000 Amex cards. Erste Bank took over the rival Diners Club Adriatic in January 2007.
