JCC, owned by the major banks, is the central body in the card payments market, managing the POS and ATM infrastructure and acquiring transactions.

The credit card sector has been relatively mature for some years, but the debit card base is growing strongly. Value and number of POS payments exceed ATM withdrawals. Debit card payments per capita almost doubled between 2003 and 2007.
