As in most CEE markets, payment card issuance and use is growing rapidly. POS payments have had higher volumes than ATM withdrawals since 2008.
The three largest Czech banks are owned by western European banks: CSOB by KBC of Belgium, Komercni banka by SociŽtŽ GŽnŽrale of France, and Ceska Sporitelna by Erste Bank of Austria.
The three large banks dominate the market, with Ceska Sporitelna accounting for nearly 40% of cards issued.
The main card processor is Global Payments Europe (formerly MUZO).
According to BCA, 94% of cards were chip-enabled at end-2010. |
