Payment Organization PBS (Payment Business Systems) announced plans to merge with BBS of Norway in 2007 to form NETS, but this has been scaled back to an acquirer processing joint venture.

Market Structure

Debit cards are popular, with high levels of usage. There were 146 Dankort debit card payments per capita in 2008 (2007: 137).

Banks acquire Dankort while PBS acquires international cards. Banks were prohibited by law from charging merchant fees for debit card acceptance, but this changed in January 2005.

   
Major Issuers Danske Bank, including BG Bank, SEB Kort Danmark, Jyske Bank, Sydbank.
   
Consumer Finance Outstanding consumer credit at end-2008 was high at DKK 141.2bn (Û18.95bn, or almost Û3,500 per person). GE Money has been present since 1994, while CrŽdit Agricole owns Dan-Aktiv.
