| Kyrgyzstan Market Structure |
The Kyrgyz card payments market is at an early stage of development, and has suffered a setback with the upheavals of 2010. Previously, the foundations had been laid for vigorous growth, with 19 banks issuing cards, of which 16 participate in the Elkart system. Visa is the most popular of the international brands.
The banking system is dominated by foreign capital. UniCredit, through its Kazakh subsidiary ATF Bank, is the only western bank present.
Despite the limited development, 11 banks provide internet banking services, according to National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, the central bank. |
