The market has expanded rapidly during recent years. The number of bank cards issued grew from 214,000 at end-1999 to 4.3 million by end-2008, since then the number has remained stable, equivalent to 1.3 per capita. POS terminals numbers grew by 77% from 2006 to 2010.
Debit cards dominate, accounting for 87% of cards end-2010. There are no more domestic cards.
As in other Baltic states, the Swedish banks SEB and Swedbank are key players in the Lithuanian market.
Bankas Snoras launched instant consumer loans and instant revolving MasterCard credit cards across its network in 2008. |
