Market Structure Card use, already among the highest in Europe, hit 215 payments per capita (191 on domestic debit cards) in 2008. Debit cards account for almost two-thirds of cards in issue. The national BankAxept debit card system is based on the use of PIN online.

Consumer Finance Growth in lending was 16.8% in 2008, taking loans to the equivalent of Ű4.4bn. GE Money is active in the market, as are Finaref (CrŽdit Agricole) and Santander Consumer Finance.
