The number of debit cards has grown slowly in recent years, while credit cards reached 33% of the total by end-2009, falling to 28% at end-2010.
Card use at the POS has increased substantially. In 2009, there were more POS payments Ð taking all card types Ð than ATM withdrawals for the first time.
Most banks now issue contactless cards. More than 35,000 contactless POS terminals have been installed mid-2011.
With nearly 7.2 million cards, PKO BP is the largest issuer and the biggest bank, closely followed by UniCredit Bank Pekao. |
