The number of debit cards has grown slowly in recent years, while credit cards reached 31% of the total by end-2008; card use at the POS has increased substantially in recent years.

Though the majority of card transactions are ATM withdrawals, POS payments have narrowed the gap substantially in recent years.

With nearly 7.5 million cards, PKO BP is the largest issuer. UniCreditÕs Bank Pekao is the biggest bank.

Consumer Finance Though small, borrowing on cards grew by more than 40% during 2008 to over PLN 12.5 billion (Û3.0 billion).
