Market Structure

Slovenia has the highest levels of card issuance and use in central and eastern Europe. There were 4.0 million debit and credit cards at end-2008, equivalent to 2 cards per capita. Foreign ownership of Slovenian banks is lower than in other CEE countries.

There are twice as many payments by number, as ATM withdrawals. There were over 63 card payments per capita in 2008.

Consumer Finance Consumer credit loans grew 5.1% in 2008 to Û2.88 billion. However, at less than Û1,500, consumer credit per capita remains well below the eurozone average.
